Media Evaluation

I feel that I have created my magazine to break all of the conventions usually associated with music magazines; I have not abided by the rule of having many of the main articles on the front page, I have only the one, for instance. I decided upon this because i didn't want my magazine looking like every other 'Indie rock" magazines, such as NME and Q, which in my opinion are very similar to each other, and there doesn't seem to be much variety. Therefore I have decided to create a niche magazine that specialises in writing and creating articles for people that want a change from the norm. As well as this, I wanted to create almost a form of art within the magazine itself, which will make it visually appealing as well as enjoyable articles.

I want my magazine to be independant, and not rely on big distributors to distribute "Jett". I would rather it be publicised through word of mouth and possibly art events, much like the also self publicised movie magazine "little white lies". This would however mean that the cost of my magazine will be more expensive at £4.50, and will come out on a monthly basis. The pricey cost will mostly go towards the creation of the magazine, but I feel that people would still be willing to buy it due to the speialised features within which range from olds bands to the very recent, and the art-like features. This self publication would mean that I would be able to do anything I wish to the magazine, without having to fill it with advertisement.

The wanted audience for my magazine would be mainly women but some men aged between 18 and late 20's. They would have a wide interest in art and music and wear all of the wierd sort of 'kooky' clothing and stand out from the crowd. They would spend their free time reading and doing very 'artsy' things while still being completely up to date with fashion in their own way.I will attract this audience by having different styles of magazines (old and new) by mixing and matching for example the editing of the front page making it cartoon like with the sex pistols typography whilst having vintage wallpaper in the background. I addressed the audience in formal yet friendly tone as i dont belive this type of audience find overly slang filled or overly formal appealing.

Overall I feel that I havent learnt much in the way that I use photoshop and indesign, as I take AS art and graphic design which both use these programmes, so I already have a high understanding of them. What i have gained however is a much higher understanding about how magazines (especially music magazines) are created.
