Evaluation continued

Here is a video that i have done talking about my front page. I did videos talking about the two other parts but I had technical difficulties which lead to my videos deleting and my camera not to work, so here is a last resort recording it on my phone. This is more or less the way iIwould of said and put things in my videos which I have written below.

Contents:

In my contents I have purposely used a busy, vintage, 1960's background to make it stand out and be very loud compared to conventional contents pages which seem to be very bland and predictable. I used a yellow colour and a cartoon font which reflects previously what I have used keeping it a house style. I kept all of the text in a square and made the 'martha' text bigger so that you know that is the main article, also the way I kept all of the text in a box in my opinion makes it look like a festival line up with the headlining and the surpporting acts listed. I decided not to have a title of 'contents' becuase i didnt want my page to be labelled and for the attention to be drawn away to the title when Iwanted to create a main focal point with the texts it's self.

Double page spread:

With my double page spread i wanted to base it on a room in my grandparents house which has loads of photos up on the wall. I kept the vintage wallpaper theme in my double page spread Ichose to use this to copy my initial idea for my double page spread. All of the frames that i used were very old and vintage, the photograph I took of Martha I made black and white becuase in my opinion I thought using a new photograph and changing it and the vintage look could represent the artists music is old meets new. The font I have chosen to use is very old fashioned and looks as if some one has written this. Overall I think that i have carried out a house style throughout my magazine.

Media Evaluation

I feel that I have created my magazine to break all of the conventions usually associated with music magazines; I have not abided by the rule of having many of the main articles on the front page, I have only the one, for instance. I decided upon this because i didn't want my magazine looking like every other 'Indie rock" magazines, such as NME and Q, which in my opinion are very similar to each other, and there doesn't seem to be much variety. Therefore I have decided to create a niche magazine that specialises in writing and creating articles for people that want a change from the norm. As well as this, I wanted to create almost a form of art within the magazine itself, which will make it visually appealing as well as enjoyable articles.

I want my magazine to be independant, and not rely on big distributors to distribute "Jett". I would rather it be publicised through word of mouth and possibly art events, much like the also self publicised movie magazine "little white lies". This would however mean that the cost of my magazine will be more expensive at £4.50, and will come out on a monthly basis. The pricey cost will mostly go towards the creation of the magazine, but I feel that people would still be willing to buy it due to the speialised features within which range from olds bands to the very recent, and the art-like features. This self publication would mean that I would be able to do anything I wish to the magazine, without having to fill it with advertisement.

The wanted audience for my magazine would be mainly women but some men aged between 18 and late 20's. They would have a wide interest in art and music and wear all of the wierd sort of 'kooky' clothing and stand out from the crowd. They would spend their free time reading and doing very 'artsy' things while still being completely up to date with fashion in their own way.I will attract this audience by having different styles of magazines (old and new) by mixing and matching for example the editing of the front page making it cartoon like with the sex pistols typography whilst having vintage wallpaper in the background. I addressed the audience in formal yet friendly tone as i dont belive this type of audience find overly slang filled or overly formal appealing.

Overall I feel that I havent learnt much in the way that I use photoshop and indesign, as I take AS art and graphic design which both use these programmes, so I already have a high understanding of them. What i have gained however is a much higher understanding about how magazines (especially music magazines) are created.

I wanted to make the survey quite short so that people would stay interested in what they are answering and spent time on the questions and really told me what they thought.

Out of 10 what would you rate my magazine?

Lily Allen double page spread

A white background is used to make the typography stand out to make Lily the main focal point. The typography used looks as if it is from a ransom note which could show that they are trying to make her edgy, this is shown further by her clothes, hair and make up that she is wearing which make her look edgy and like a punk like she doesnt really care about looks, which reflects the title showing that she is the opposite to what people think of her. A colour scheme is used throughout using all of the colours of her top. She is facing towards the audience and staring out at them with her hads on her hips which shows that she's very in your face and does really care what people think.
